Course Description
The cornerstone of CPI since 1980, this program is considered the worldwide standard for crisis prevention and intervention training. With a core philosophy of providing for the Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security of everyone involved in a crisis situation, the program’s proven strategies give human service providers and educators the skills to safely and effectively respond to anxious, hostile, or violent behavior while balancing the responsibilities of care.

Autism Workshop

Course Description
This program addresses tailoring training to address the unique needs of staff who support individuals with autism spectrum disorders or related communication disabilities. Included in this 2 day workshop is the completion of functional behaviour assessments along with the greater understanding of how individuals with ASD best learn through structured teaching by way of the TEACCH approach to Autism.

Pharmacology Training

Course Description
Many of the clients that we deal with on a daily basis require prescription medications. The administration of medication to our clients is not only important and necessary, it is also potentially dangerous. There are regulations laid out by the Ministry of Community, Family and Children’s Services, governed by the Child and Family Services Act. As well Cedar Heights Residential Living has their own set of policies and procedures pertaining to the administration of medication by staff members. Both regulations are explained in detail in this training.

The purpose of this training is to:

Ensure the safety and well being of our clients at all times.

Ensure staff are well trained and capable of administering medication.

Give you a better understanding of the types of medications you will be deal administering.

Red Cross First Aid and CPR

Course Description
First Aid & CPR training is mandatory for employees in the workplace; but unlike most other types of safety training, these skills and knowledge are also applicable to an individual’s daily life. Participants are taught First Aid & CPR in easy-to-follow steps, empowering them to act on, prevent, and manage not only workplace emergencies but life’s emergencies.

FASD Workshop

Course Description
By introducing the Neurobehavioral Accomodation Model ( NAM) in this 3 day workshop, participants are given information linking brain function with behaviors thus increasing understanding, reducing frustration, and contributing to successful outcomes. Knowledge about FASD and organicity provides a way to shift perceptions: Children with FASD may be understood as having a problem rather than being the problem. Day 3 of this training provides strategies and assessment tools to assist those who work with individuals with brain based invisible developmental disabilities. Increasing understanding of FASD as a brain-based physical disability, will help in the prevention of secondary defensive behaviors and improving outcomes.
